The Beginnings: A Podcasting Adventure
We started as a podcast!
We started our podcasting adventure with Board Gaming with English in October of 2017. At that time two of us hosted the show, Dustin and Rich. We are both teachers and we often talk about board games, video games, movies, TV shows, and all sorts of fun things. Another thing we often talk a lot about is our classes, students, and education. Both of us are very passionate about adapting ways to make learning more engaging and fun. We are constantly thinking of ways to implement creative methods into our teaching.
So, the podcast was born. The gears in our head started turning and we started brainstorming and talking about different games that can be used for language instruction. The list seemed to be endless. With Dustin’s strong background in English language education and some online business experience and with Rich’s background is in history and international educational experience the podcast was born!
The Old Magic: Board Gaming With English
From February 2018 to December 2018, we released podcast episodes under the name “Board Gaming with English.” The podcast episodes were centered around finding games that can help English language learners improve their English. Teachers, students, and board game enthusiasts can learn and benefit from our podcast. These episodes will always be available and act as a tremendous resource to English language learners and teachers!
Teachers can learn what games they can use in their classrooms with their students. Also, available on our site are valuable resources that teachers can use in their own classrooms. These resources are designed to go hand and hand with the games we talk about on the podcast.
Guests from the Board Gaming with Education Podcast: We love the community of teachers, designers, homeschool parents, and most importantly, gamers we have grown over the years. Thank you for being a part of this mission and improving learning and education through games!
Check out our Board Gaming with Education website!
Students can learn as they listen to each of the episodes. We go over the basic rules of the games, experiences playing the games, grammar structures, key vocabulary, and other things in each of the episodes. There are also resources to help students with their independent study, or for those who lead English clubs.
The New Magic: Board Gaming With Education
Since December 2018, the podcast shifted gears. We listened to you, our listeners! We noticed a lot of educators outside of language education tuned into the show. We wanted to extend our content to listeners in the field of education. We will continue to provide great content related to the fields of board games, game-based learning, and gamification. Our episodes are great for teachers, educators of all different capacities, board game enthusiasts, and professionals. If you play board games or are a part of the board game industry you can listen along to our podcast as we talk about how these games can also be conducive to learning and how they can be implemented in education. So, if you are at all interested in how games can intersect with learning and education be sure to listen in.

Adventures Beyond…
Board Gaming with Education has come a long way since the podcast first started in 2017. We have developed resources including a gamification kit, WorldsXP, for educators to use to gamify their learning environment. We have developed courses, including our Game-Based Lesson Development course. And in the summer of 2020, we launched our online marketplace for educators. This is your one-stop-shop for all things board games and learning! We were also very excited to welcome on Rodger Moore as a new Board Gaming with Education team member!
